Bluetooth Fast Pair for Android 6.0 and up seamlessly connects supported accessories
Undoubtedly inspired by the 'magic' Apple was able to accomplish with its W1 chip for Bluetooth accessories, today Google has officially announced Bluetooth Fast Pair for Android. This will work with any device running Android 6.0 and up which has Google Play Services 11.7 or later installed. As the name implies, Fast Pair will make the usually cumbersome pairing procedure for Bluetooth accessories seamless. When a supported device is near your phone, you'll get a notification like the one you see in the capture below (with the image of the product, no less). You simply tap that, and pairing is complete no need to dive into Settings. Furthermore, if the accessory you just connected has its own app in the Play Store, a new notification will tell you about that and let you jump to its listing with one tap. Here's the catch. Fast Pair may be supported on millions and millions of phones and tablets once Play Services 11.7 is rolled out across the world, but the accessories you're trying to pair need to support it too. So for now here's the amazingly long list of those: and Libratone's Q Adapt On-Ear headphones. That's it. Seriously. The Plantronics Voyager 8200 series headsets will be supported soon, but if you own any other Bluetooth accessory you're out of luck. |
